To whom it may concern:

I am writing this letter regarding Mr. James Tuman. During the 2001-02 school year, I worked with Jim as he planned, executed and conducted seminars and detailed follow-up work with the students of White Cloud High School.

Originally, Jim agreed, in his role as a national public speaker, to speak to the student body of White Cloud High School in its entirety. In the evening, he conducted an intensive on-the-spot communication seminar for parents and students. The following morning, Jim addressed White Clouds' community leaders and student leaders in a workshop that identified community problem areas. This group, made up of adults and students, then brainstormed concrete, measurable steps towards alleviating the community of these issues.

The response was enthusiastic and powerful. What kept this initial energy flowing was the fact that Jim returned to White Cloud High School. Jim worked with community members and established a core group of high school student leaders. These students were highly motivated and dedicated to making a difference in their community. They adopted the name "Voices of Reason" for this group.

Through contact with me and contact with the high school students, Jim kept the energy and focus continuous in White Cloud High School. In addition, Jim returned to our school to conduct a seminar honing and encouraging leadership in students.

In May of 2002, Jim invited the "Voices of Reason" members for a field trip to Detroit. The trip served two purposes. One, Jim wanted to reward and encourage the students for their hard work organizing ideas to improve their community. Also, Jim wanted to show them the many faces of a large city. Many of the White Cloud students had never left our county, much less been in a city. This trip was a success, with the students touring the city (with a personally guided neighborhood tour of southwest Detroit). They also explored a restored three story four-star restaurant, visited the Renaissance Center, dined in an authentic Greek restaurant, attended a Detroit Tigers game and went to "Joe Vision" at Joe Louis Arena.

Jim does a wonderful job motivating students and inspiring them with vision. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Renae L. Galsterer
